Northumbria University has worked with Mr Howard Atkin on the development of novel heat exchange components for low energy housing.  We were able to assist him by providing independent measurements of heat transfer and fluid flow rates across a variety of heat exchange devices including PVC heat recovery units (for reclaiming heat from mechanically ventilated houses) and heat pumps coupled with ventilation heat recovery units.  We also provided independent tests on the performance of a variety of novel products for reducing stray heat loss from the rear surfaces of domestic hot water heating radiators.  Mr Atkin’s activities form a crucial contribution to the vital areas of energy conservation and low carbon building products.  His products and product ideas are novel and groundbreaking.  We look forward to working with him again in the future in this important area of product development.

University of Central Lancashire

The Centre for Materials Science at the University of Central Lancashire worked with Howard Atkin over a number of years assisting him in his development of new and innovative materials for high energy density storage. This work involved the use of a wide range of chemical and physical techniques and cutting edge methods in nanotechnology. Mr Atkin combines together the skills of scientist, engineer and entrepreneur. The work that he and his team did in our laboratories was of very high quality and added significantly to the knowledge of staff and students in the Centre for Materials Science. As an individual he is one of the most innovative and creative that I have met and would be very happy to work with him again on any project in the area of nanostructured materials.

Morphy Richards

Morphy Richards Is always keen to explore innovative solutions in an attempt to reduce domestic power consumption whilst improving product performance.  Howards experience in advanced motor technology attracted our attention and we commissioned a study into low cost energy efficient motor design.  Improvements looked feasible so Howard developed his ideas further using computer modelling techniques, and then building proof of principle prototypes to fully test and prove his theories.  It was a pleasure working with Howard and we look forward to our next project together.
